Stepping Into a New Season
The cold is setting in, ushering in my favourite time of the year. In particular, my favourite month of the year, just behind the reigning champ, December (for obvious reasons). October - the month we got married. The month we celebrate both my husband and my mother’s birthdays. And, the month we gather together for the divine purpose of giving thanks. Here in Canada, it’s the month when the trees release a climatic array of colours so brilliant, their beauty stops you in your tracks as the golden sun shines between the leaves.
And, for the first time in 5 years, this October. I’m home. I’m not hopping from airport to airport, plane to plane, travelling from one city or country to the next. Normally, this month is full of adventure and the thrill of the unknown. But, in its own way, this year is no different. I’m stepping into a new season.
Over the last three and a half years, my company, Paper & Coin has been providing one-on-one personal financial coaching to Millennials across Canada. For the first 3 years, it was just me, literally meeting with people in coffee shops, and even in their homes, helping them get their money organized and on mission. But, over the last 6 months, I’ve been blessed enough to have been able to bring on two additional coaches to support me with this work. This is an addition to hiring a graphic designer, developer, and soon, a UX designer to help with marketing and product development. Despite its challenges, 2020 has been a banner year for my company. We produced and released our Spring/Summer 2020 issue of PAPER & COIN Magazine, developed our Money Masterclass online course, and we aren’t done yet. This month, we’ll begin working on our biggest undertaking yet - a financial literacy app!
I’m so excited to share more with you, but unfortunately I’ll have to wait (which I’m terrible at, by the way). But, I will say that this was always my intent ever since the idea of Paper & Coin came to my mind. At the time, for lack of insight and resources, I decided to start off as a traditional coaching company, but the dream of creating a practical, SaaS tool for Millennials has always been in my heart, and in the back of my mind. The time is now, and I can’t wait to bring you guys along on the journey.
In addition to everything happening at my company, including managing a growing team, I’m still coaching a handful of clients, working a new full-time job, balancing freelance work, the occasional contributing writing, and trying to find time to blog. But, as I’ve said before, this feels less like work, and more like a form of creative expression and release. It’s my way of staying connected to a small community that’s my own.
Needless to say, between kicking off this new app, onboarding a new team member, getting acquainted with my new job, and planning for so much more (which I also can’t share just yet…sorry!), this season is going to be a busy one. But, as I talked about in my September Sundays series, I’m still going to be intentional about rest, and taking in the beauty of this time of year, especially as we look forward to the holidays. I’m going to take morning coffee walks with my husband, photography hikes with my friends, and write, just for fun! Yes, life is going to be busy. In fact, for me, it’s always been busy, and is always going to be busy. Because, honestly, that’s how I like it! Otherwise, I get bored, antsy, and restless - a recipe for disaster.
So, as I step into this new season of business, my career, and literally, the new season of Fall, I could not be more excited! Expect lots of content on here about everything I’m working on - as a leader, entrepreneur, writer, photographer, or as the most amateur baker, and novice video editor. I’m looking forward to sharing it all with you.
Until next time, friends…
Cheers,
Octavia
